Alberta's NDP Government Holding Back Ag Society Funding?

Agricultural Societies across Alberta are in limbo as they wait for the Alberta Government to provide annual program funding. Brian Jean of the United Conservatives and MLA for Fort McMurray-Conklin posted the following letter that was obtained from the Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies.
Farmers and rural communities have been growing concerned with the NDP Government' seeming lack of understanding and empathy for farmers in Alberta. All this with the backdrop of the Trudeau Government going after farmers with new tax changes.

Dear Members,
The Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies (AAAS) is very aware of the challenges facing
Ag Societies while waiting for the arrival of your annual grant. AAAS has been actively pursuing
the reasons for these delays and seeking answers as to when the funding will be sent out.
On Friday afternoon the Agriculture and Forestry Minister’s office confirmed that the
Agricultural Societies program funding is in the hands of the Treasury Board. The Treasury
Board is responsible for the allocation of Provincial funds to all Ministries and is reviewing the
Primary Agricultural Societies program. A decision is expected on Friday September 15. Tony
Clark, Minister Carlier’s chief of staff, has indicated that there will be a reduction in funding but
was unable to define how much.
AAAS has requested to be informed of the decision as soon as possible and will inform our
members as soon as we know. AAAS is preparing documentation that will be provided to the
Agriculture & Forestry Minister as well as the members of the Treasury Board which we hope
will assist them in their deliberations.
Should your Ag Society wish to express your concerns over changes in funding we encourage
you to respectfully contact your local MLA (contact information can be found through this
link or you can message the
Agriculture and Forestry Minister’s office at
